Sisterhood

Shalom, and Welcome to Congregation Shaar Hashalom!

As Co-Presidents of Congregation Shaar Hashalom’s Sisterhood, we would like to welcome you to our community.

All ladies at Congregation Shaar Hashalom (whether they are members of the congregation or not) are eligible, encouraged, and enthusiastically invited to join the Sisterhood. The Sisterhood, which is affiliated with the Women’s League for Conservative Judaism, is an organization for all Jewish women.

Our Sisterhood sponsors many social events and holiday celebrations, and we maintain a full calendar of activities. We manage a comprehensive and lovely Judaica shop; are supportive of our religious school; and have always been a loyal and generous supporter of our synagogue. Some of our annual events have include the Yom Kippur Break Fast, our annual Paid-Up-Membership Dinner, hosting a variety of speakers, and most recently, last year’s wildly popular Family Hanukkah Evening. Through the years we have made major cash and gift contributions to our synagogue including: new sanctuary chairs, multi-purpose tables, room dividers, an office copy machine, new computers for the offices, and have kept the synagogue kitchen running and appropriately equipped. We just recently purchased three new convection ovens and stove tops for the kitchen.

We hope that if you are not already a Sisterhood member, that you will consider joining us. Dues for first year members are $20. Dues thereafter are $36 a year for congregation members; $40 a year for non-members. Sisterhood is an outlet to have fun, make new friends, see old friends, learn, embrace your Judaism, enjoy our accomplishments, and journey together as sisters. If you have questions about us or would like to talk about joining, please feel free to give Sheilla Goldberg a call at 281-798-4297 or email us at sheillagoldberg@gmail.com

We welcome you, one and all!

Most sincerely,

Sheilla Goldberg, co-President
Nurit Mittlefeldt, co-President

Apple Strudel

During one of our Challah Club meetings, Cantor Laurie generously shared several recipes, all of them absolutely delicious. Among which was this simple & fun to make Apple Strudel. It has only those four ingredients, making it a perfect treat for Rosh Hashana. I’m including a pdf of the recipe so you can make one at home.

The photo is from our Challah Club event. If you do make it, we’d love to see your results.
