Social Action

CSH Social Action will be planning a Mitzvah Day for our congregation and the community in the near future. In the planning stages are a Blessing of the Animals and an event with the residents of Hope Village.

I’d like to have a few more members involved and helping to share new ideas to better serve the synagogue and the community. I welcome any new ideas as well as new volunteers.

For the past few months, our newly formed Interfaith Council had an extremely successful and well-attended event called “The Golden Rule.” Over 150 community members from area churches, mosques, and synagogues came together to learn more about each other and their religious practices regarding the golden rule. Having the community to come together to learn about their similarities and differences was a very valuable teaching moment. We found we have many similarities, that we can respect our individual beliefs, and still join together.

Highlights were tables with literature on each religion, the panel of religious leaders each sharing about themselves and their respective beliefs, sitting with and making new friends at our tables, and sharing foods together. As many were leaving, we were asked will there be another event soon? It was agreed that this was just the first of many.

Another perk for us was that, through these new friends in the community, we have shared bagels and canned goods with several new food banks as well as the Lighthouse Food Pantry, but probably, more importantly, we are now known as an active participant in the Clear Lake religious community.

Thank you to all our CSH members who attended; we were very well represented.
